Comparing 15 veterinary schools by GPA, tuition, ranking, class size, location, and international student eligibility.
There are many factors to consider when deciding where to apply to veterinary school, as I've experienced it first hand this past cycle. Rankings are one way to compare programs, but they do not show differences in tuition, class size, average GPA, or who is eligible to apply.
For this assignment, I collected data from 15 veterinary schools in the United States. I compared each school using average GPA, resident and nonresident tuition, U.S. News ranking, state, class size, and whether international students can apply.
The goal of this website is to make it easier to look at these factors together instead of judging a veterinary school based on one number.
Some of the highest-ranked schools are not the most expensive schools in the dataset. UC Davis is ranked #1 with a nonresident tuition of about $50,306, while Ohio State is ranked #3 and has a nonresident tuition of about $87,828.
Texas A&M and Purdue have similar reported average GPAs, but their class sizes are very different. Texas A&M has about 180 students in its entering class compared with about 89 at Purdue.
Most of the schools in this dataset allow international students to apply, but some do not. This makes international eligibility another important category to check before comparing other factors.
